Frequently ASked Questions

Why do you want to serve on the PISD Board of Trustees?

I am a grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 5 are in the school system from 1st grade to 10th grade. Child learning is extremely important in their growing years, before their brains fully develop. They must learn the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic to be competitive in today's market. I am a combat veteran, a Respiratory Therapist (Neonatal/pediatric specialist as well as an educator/director for a large part of my working life). I want to make sure all students will be safe and have a curriculum based on being able to read write and be proficient at math.

What are your educational and work backgrounds?

I was a Navy trained Hospital Corpsman who worked in Combat with the US Marines. I then became a Respiratory Therapist after taking an associate’s in applied science in Respiratory Care and passed the Registered Respiratory Therapist credential followed by the Neonatal/Pediatric specialty credential. I worked as a Respiratory Therapist both adults then children after my N/P/S award. I then moved to start teaching RC, associate degree programs both as teacher and clinical specialist. I became a Director in Respiratory Care programs. I created four programs, three were associate’s degrees and one was a BS degree. During that time, I went to College for a BS in Health Sciences, an MA in Public Management. I’ve started my PhD in applied technology and development.

What leadership qualities do you bring to the post?

My leadership started within my promotion to a Petty Officer 3 rd class in the military. During the late 80’s, 90’s through to 2017, I served as the following in the Texas Society for Respiratory care as: 1. President x2, Delegate to national x2, chair of the governmental affairs x2. I also move on to the American Association for Respiratory Care House of Delegates as a Delegate, Speaker Elect, Speaker, and Past Speaker. As Past Speaker I sat on the Board of directors

What do you see as the most pressing issue facing the District?

The most pressing issue is the unprecedented growth of the area. Tying into that is the budget. Last year we hit the projected high mark of student enrollment by the end of December. This year we have already surpassed that mark.

In what area would you make the biggest contribution and why?

I currently have five grandchildren in the system with a sixth entering soon. I can help watch over them and all children to assure they are safe, and that they not only learn, but excel in Math, Science, Reading, and writing. My educational background together with my ability to create and build educational programs (albeit at the post-secondary level). I’ve been a director of educational programs complete with curriculum development, budgeting, as an Associate-Professor, member of the Senate at Midwestern State University.

“Preparing for our children's future beyond K-12 is essential because it equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world. While a successful K-12 education lays the foundation, higher education or vocational training ensures they are ready to meet the demands of a competitive job market. By focusing on post-secondary opportunities, we empower them to pursue fulfilling careers and contribute meaningfully to society.”
